THE YEAR OF THE WORD
30th September 2019 - 31st December 2020
Celebrating, Living and Sharing God's Word
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales have designated 2020 as being the Year of the Word. The focus will be upon 'The God Who Speaks' to us through the Scriptures. Just as 2016 was a very special and fruitful year both nationally and here in the school, with its focus being upon being the ‘Year of Mercy’ and with pupils undertaking many corporal and spiritual acts of mercy in their charitable work and prayer life, similarly we hope that this year will be fruitful and help us to grow spiritually.
The Year of the Word celebrates the 10th anniversary of Verbum Domini - Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on ‘The Word of the Lord’, and the 1600th anniversary of death of St Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin.
Therefore, 2020 will be a year of celebrating, living and sharing God's word. More details about the national approach to this can be found here: https://rcdow.org.uk/att/files/proclaim/yotw/the-god-who-speaks-brochure-final.pdf and we have many activities planned throughout the year, and indeed many already underway, for celebrating this year in our school.
