The Humanities departments, consisting of History, Geography and Sociology, took Year 8 on trips earlier this term as part of their Problem Based Learning Day.
The PBL Day are designed to develop pupils’ wider understanding of their subjects and encourage cross-curricular skills and thinking. The Humanities PBL Days are themed on the history, culture, identity and geography of Wales. Pupils attended trips to Cardiff Castle, where they participated in workshops on medieval life; Big Pit, where they learned about the history of Welsh coal mining; and Swansea University’s Bay Campus, where pupils took part in a coastal survey project.
The day was very successful and enjoyed by all – the pupils’ knowledge and understanding of Wales was strengthened and pupils agreed that it was a day well spent.
