A student in BVS Sixth Form has spent the day shadowing a member of the Welsh Assembly Government as part of a new leadership initiative.
Johannah, a Year 12 student, was selected from more than 100 applicants to participate in the LeadHerShip scheme. The scheme was launched by Chwarae Teg, a charity that supports women in the workplace. Johannah, along with 16 other young women from across Wales, visited the Senedd in Cardiff. She shadowed Suzy Davies AM to find out more about the life of women in modern politics. Johannah then took part in a debate in the Senedd Chamber, discussing the challenges still facing women in the workplace and wider society.
The day was an excellent opportunity for Johannah to find out about the world of politics and to celebrate the role of women within politics. Johannah said: ‘I really enjoyed the whole day. It was inspiring to meet so many positive role models and hear their experiences, as well as discussing ways to combat the sexism and other challenges women still face today.’
